A PROPOSED BIO-REFINERY ON THE LANCASTER CAMPUS OF OHIO UNIVERSITY IS GOING TO COST MORE THAN EXPECTED. OHIO COAL RESEARCH CENTER DIRECTOR DAVID BAYLESS SAYS THE CAMPUS HAS PROVIDED A LOCATION FOR THE PROJECT AND IS DEVELOPING COST ESTIMATES AS PLANNING CONTINUES. HE SAYS ALTHOUGH THE UNIVERSITY RECEIVED A NEARLY ONE MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT, THE BIO-REFINERY IS GOING TO COST MORE THAN THE EXPECTED $3 TO $5 MILLION...
[TAKE NAME: biorefinery1 OUTCUE: 5 million dollars DURATION:0:17] <we are in the process of working with several partners and we have commitments moving forward but we don't have the entire score of the project, or at least the scope that's in my mind for the entire project, which I'm going to estimate now is probably going to be more than 5 million dollars.>
THE BIO-REFINERY WOULD PROCESS OILS FROM NATURAL MATERIALS SUCH AS ALGAE IN ORDER TO PRODUCE ALTERNATIVE FUELS FOR MACHINERY AND AUTOMOBILES. BAYLESS SAYS HE HOPES THE PROGRAM CAN INVOLVE STUDENTS IN THE RESEARCH OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS THAT DON'T RELY ON FOOD-BASED SOURCES.
