The free clinic travels around southeastern Ohio offering medical assistance to local residents every Thursday of the month. The clinic is provided through the O-U College of Osteopathic Medicine's Community Health Program and travels to Athens, Meigs, Hocking, Perry and Washington Counties every month. The program provides health care assistance to people who need it, and nurses at the clinic think that need is only going increase with the bad economy.

I think that sometimes we are the best kept secret. And we definitely work hard trying to get the info out to people who can use it. I definitely think its only going increase, rather than decrease.">
Patients need to meet a certain criteria before they can receive care. They need to be between the ages of 18 and 64, have no health insurance of any kind, meet the federal poverty income guidelines and live in one of the counties the clinic serves. The clinic's aim is to keep people healthy and out of the emergency room.

The providers at the travelling clinic say the biggest benefit of the program is getting people the help they need.
[TAKE SOT NAME: Greenlee 2 OUTCUE: to people AT: 8:40 TO: 8:57 DURATION:0:17] {***SOT FULL***} <"it provides a place for them to find a medical home, it's very expensive to get labwork done and get any treatment. If they meet the financial qualifications they can get a lot of things at no charge, or very low charge. And a lot of people aren't aware of that. So that's the biggest benefit, providing that information to people.">
Reporting in Nelsonville with WOUB news, I'm Pat Henderson.
