ANCHOR INTRO: [Anchor:DREW] {***DREW**} [ReadRate:15] Life has returned to normal in Athens since the Halloween weekend. The out-of-town partiers have packed up and left. The Mayor gave his Halloween recap at his news conference yesterday. Athens MidDay reporter Pat Henderson was there and joins us live - Pat?

That's right Drew I got the chance yesterday to talk to Mayor Paul Wiehl about Halloween weekend. He had some new numbers on the overall costs of the weekend and talked about how he thought it went.
TRACK: The weekend came and went - and now so have out-of-town visitors - but the City of Athens still has a lot of work ahead. Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl says the costs for the weekend are somewhere near 49,000 dollars, but he expects that number to go up. He says two city departments have yet to report their expenses - including the over-time for the streets department. Wiehl also said businesses may not have made as much money as they hoped.
SOT: [CG :Std Lower 3rd\Mayor Paul Wiehl\City of Athens] 14:12 I don't think a lot of the vendors made as much money as they thought - could be the cold - could be the economy - I'm not sure. That's all anecdotal. All in all, it looked like the same old Halloween. 14:26
[CG :Std Lower 3rd\Pat Henderson\Athens MidDay] STAND UP: 7:27 Mayor Paul Wiehl says this Halloween was a pretty calm one - but incidents did still take place, such as the couch burning that occurred right here on Palmer Street. 7:35
SOT: [CG :Std Lower 3rd\Andrea Otto\OU Student] :33 I was walking back to my house and I saw like the burning remains in the yard next door, not burning it was just the remains. All my friends were freaking out because I guess two of my friends got arrested for going down here and standing by it. Like ten cops came and pulled in our front yard. :49
TRACK: Despite the couch burning incident - crime this halloween wasn't much different from last year.

Athens Police Department arrested 51 people compared with 53 last year, and Liquor enforcement arrested 61 people on Friday and 51 people on Saturday. There were 45 medical emergency responses - comparable to last year's 44.>

Mayor Wiehl says there won't be any big differences in next year's Halloween - but the students I talked to said they're going to be prepared next time there is a big party in Athens and bring their furniture indoors to avoid any problems. Reporting live with Athens MidDay, I'm Pat Henderson.
